After months of speculation, we now know that the Apple iPad runs the same iPhone OS as the Apple iPhone and iPod touch. The iPhone OS will run on the iPad’s 1GHz Apple A4 processor, and run the same software as the Apple smartphone does.

We spent some hands-on time with the Apple iPad after Steve Jobs’ announcement of the multitouch slate, and it’s an impressive tablet. Build quality is very high, with the brushed aluminum, slightly bowed back plate resting well in the hands in both landscape and portrait orientations.
