Bet you didn’t see that coming. Who are we kidding? Of course you did! Despite the fact that The New York Times has been the main old-school newspaper distributor in the limelight since the announcement of the iPad (it probably didn’t hurt to be promoted during the keynote), The Wall Street Journal has made it perfectly clear that they want in on the Apple tablet goodness. And why wouldn’t they?

With all this talk of Flash Player and how the iPad doesn’t support it though, there were some questions that had to be answered first, well before anything could be confirmed by other platforms out there. Despite the fact that Steve Jobs himself took the time to visit with higher-ups at the WSJ, it seemed like all this fuss over the preeminent online video platform would get in the way. But that’s all been washed away, thanks to the News Corp. chairman, Rupert Murdoch. While speaking at a luncheon for the Real Estate Board of New York, he confirmed that the WSJ had been allowed to create an iPad app, but that Apple currently has it “under padlock and key.”

No surprise there, either. With so many publishers out there vying for a spot on the iPad (there’s plenty of room), keeping the specific features of a platform secret might make all the difference in the long run for that platform’s success. While we’re sure to have several features doubled-up on other publications, we can always hope that one stand-out feature tips the scales. And while we’d love to bring you some extra good news, like an availability date or pricing, there’s just nothing to report. As soon as there is though, we’ll make sure to pass it along.
