Another installment within the Flash Wars, this time brought to you by a major publisher. With this piece, though, we can at least say that the publisher in question is going in the right direction with their distribution model. And considering the large swathe of products they are ready to launch for Apple’s tablet, we’re sure there’s a few people out there that will enjoy what’s coming down the pipe here in just a few months.

Magazine publisher Condé Nast wants to bring Wired, GQ, Vanity Fair,The New Yorker, and Glamour to the iPad in the comings months, with a staggered release for all the editions. GQ will release first in April; Vanity Fair and Wired will both be pushed out in June, and The New Yorker and Glamour will come out some time in the summer. The best, and most intriguing part though, is that the publisher wants to use varied release models, all of which will test the waters for advertising, application pricing, and general approaches to releasing the content. We like this model, and it means that over time we’ll have options, instead of being force-fed only one way to consume our favorite media outlets.

But, there’s always a catch. As it stands, Adobe’s Flash Player plays a big part in the publisher’s life, and even though Condé Nast has iPhone/iPod Touch applications out there, they want to make more interactive models for the iPad. Which makes sense. But, the publisher is wary to move forward until Adobe and Apple figure out their situation. No one will argue that Flash Player plays a huge role in the standard for streaming video and web animation, so this hesitation to create interactive-heavy applications is sound. We just hope it gets figured out soon.
