Apple have used their Apple Store refresh to update some of the iPad information, most notably further information on their iBooks app. Available in the App Store for US customers only, we now know that iBooks will support non-DRM ePUB ebooks, which can be loaded via iTunes.

Previously, while we’d known that Apple was using the ePUB format, it was unclear whether readers would be able to access titles from outside of the iBookstore ecosystem. Apple are using their own DRM system – rather than the Adobe DRM commonly used with ePUB – and it’s not yet known whether free files transferred over via iTunes will have DRM added in the process.
It’s also been revealed that iBooks will have integrated dictionary and Wikipedia search functionality. Readers will be able to touch and hold a word in an ebook, and then choose between a search from the in-build dictionary or to look that word up in Wikipedia online.
