You probably assume that being one of the key developers that gets early access to the pre-release version of something as huge as the iPad would be all glamorous. Something worthy of walking the red carpet, even. That doesn’t seem to be the case. In fact, it’s looking to be the complete opposite. From what we are hearing, being one of the “lucky developers” actually means you get to make a room completely inhospitable for human life.

Sending out a letter, or email, or petition to Apple isn’t enough to get yourself considered to be on the list of early access developers anymore. Nope. Now, you needed to send Apple photographic evidence that you had created what many would consider a safe room for the iPad. This includes windows blacked out, and an obvious piece of furniture where the iPad could be tethered, and therefore not removed for any reason. The iPad couldn’t be your tool. It had to be your prisoner.
Apple isn’t commenting on the rumors, or the leaks if you will, and neither are any of the developers. Then again, we shouldn’t assume any developer would, considering the list is pretty small, so if word did get out, it wouldn’t be much of a task for Apple to figure out who blabbed. But, who didn’t make the cut? EverNote is one of the primary development units not getting early access to the iPad. Flixster and Digital Chocolate were also rejected. So, they’re left to design applications for the iPad much in the same way we’re picturing using those applications. With our imaginations.
